On Saturday 30th September, a ceremony to commemorate the late Past District Governor, Allan McDonald OAM took place at the Lions Park, Burrill Lake. A plaque was unveiled at the base of a Tuckeroo tree which was planted as a memorial to our former popular member who was our District Governor (District 201n2) in 2013 /2014.
The memorial was donated by the District Governors group throughout Australia (called “the Settlers”) in the same year Allan was our District Governor.
The ceremony was attended by the Lions Australia, Council Chairman of the same year, Warren Latham, and his wife Lion Marilyn, who travelled from Sydney for the occasion and represented Lions Australia. Allan’s widow, Lion Ann and a large contingent of family and invited guests attended the ceremony where numerous stories were told prior to a “Lions BBQ luncheon”.
Allan, affectionately known to many in the community as “Mr. Lions”, worked tirelessly in our local community and dedicated his life to community service, including the establishment of Lions Park and the wonderful facilities we enjoy at the park, and it was only fitting for the Council to agree to the memorial.
Lion Ann and son Garry thanked those in attendance for their support since his passing.
Pictures of the plaque and tree (Tuckeroo), adjacent to the large shelter shed and a photo of the tree with Allan’s DG’s blazer hanging from the supports shows Lion Marilyn Latham, Lion Ann, son Garry McDonald and Past Council Chairman Warren Latham.
