On Saturday, September 9th, 2023, the Ulladulla Milton Lions Club celebrated an astounding 60 years of unwavering service to our local community, hosting a joyous cocktail party at the Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club. The venue provided a picturesque backdrop of Mollymook Beach, adorned with the sun’s golden rays reflecting on the glistening waters.
This event not only brought together our dedicated current and former Lions Club members but also attracted esteemed representatives from a diverse array of community groups and notable politicians, converging to honour this momentous milestone. Among these distinguished guests were our federal representative, Fiona Phillips, and our esteemed state representative, Liza Butler, both gracing the occasion with their presence.
Geffory Farrow, the current president of the Ulladulla Milton Lions Club, opened the celebration with a heartfelt tribute to past Lions, expressing, “I wish to acknowledge the vision, work ethic, teamwork, camaraderie, service, and outstanding contributions of our past Lions. They have laid enduring foundations for philanthropy and community service, helping to shape and fortify our community. Today’s Lions Club follows in their noble footsteps.”
Our club president proudly presented a series of generous donations to various local organizations, charities, and schools. The representatives gratefully accepted these contributions, recognising the positive impact they would have on their respective endeavours. The most substantial donation, amounting to $40,000, was directed to the Lions Ulladulla District Community Foundation. This funding will support the ongoing renovations of Jindelara cottage and the construction of an extension which is about to start.
The festivities were elevated by Matt Dell from the Apex Club, who graciously assumed the role of our guest auctioneer. His expertise and enthusiasm shone through as he auctioned generous donations from our community, significantly bolstering funds for our essential causes. Additionally, a selection of fantastic prizes were raffled, including vouchers for meals at local restaurants and health and beauty treatments. In total, the club raised an impressive sum of over $3,000 from the auction and raffle.
To tantalize our taste buds, the food, expertly catered by the staff from Dunn Lewis Centre, was nothing short of delightful. An array of finger foods, canapés, and delectable, sweet treats were served to ensure no one went home hungry.
It’s safe to say that we all had an exceptional day! As we reflect on the remarkable achievements of our local Lions club over the last 60 years, it undoubtedly fills everyone present with immense pride in the collective accomplishments of our dedicated members.
Here’s to the next decade of devoted service to our community!
